According to research collected by Ron Fairchild, executive director of the Johns Hopkins University Center for Summer Learning:
- On average, students lose approximately 2.6 months of grade-level equivalency in math over the summer months.
- Students typically score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer than they do on the same tests at the beginning of summer.
The American Federation of Teachers recommends spending a little time each day over the summer on reading, writing and math activities.
In fact, summer is a great time for your child to enjoy some extra reading. I'll be happy to make some suggestions from our Recommended Reading list.
Kumon study only takes 10-15 minutes each day per subject, so it leaves plenty of time left for summer fun. Your child will hit the ground running when they return to school in the fall.
Let your child continue to amaze you this summer!
