Tuition
The monthly tuition is due in advance. For example, December's monthly tuition is due before the end of November. Our KUMON families have generally been great about getting tuition payments in on time, and so we don't often have to talk about the late payment policy. FYI, the policy is:

  • Tuition is $105 per month per subject.
  • Tuition is due on or before the first of the month.
  • An early payment incentive of $5.00 reduces the tuition to $100 if it is received in the office or postmarked by the the first day of the month that payment is due.
  • A late fee of $10.00 will be applied if the tuition is received after the 10th of the month.
  • A student may be absent, at no charge, without being discontinued as long as the student is not absent for more than two consecutive months.  If a student returns after an absence of two months or greater, a re-enrollment fee of $30 must be paid.
  • Paid tuition is non-refundable.
  • According to the Kumon North America policy: " If work is received for any day during a month, tuition is due for the entire month."
  • Tuition is pro-rated for the first month only according to the day of the month the student is first enrolled. Full tuition is charged for subsequent months.
  • There is a one time enrollment initiation fee of $50. For Jr. Kumon studnets there is a one time $35 supply fee.

Holiday/Vacation Schedules
Vacation Schedules are available in the waiting room to help make it easy for parents to inform us when your child will miss a regularly scheduled class and need extra work. These make it easy for parents to let us know when you'll be missing several regularly scheduled classes and plan accordingly.

Planning and organizing work for your child takes a great deal of thought and organization. We require at least one weeks notice before any extended absence in order to put your child's vacation packet together.

During the holidays or in the summer, it's easy to let us know when you'll be gone and will need packets put together to cover your time away. You can fill out and submit the Vacation Schedule, leave a phone message, e-mail and/or send in a note letting us know the last day your child will be in class and the day they will return to class so that we can organize the right amount of work for your child. You can also let us know if you would like any adjustments in the work. Please let us know if you want your child to take a few days off, lessen the daily workload, or even increase the amount of work to be done over your vacation.

If we do not receive advance notice, we will try our best to put a packet together for you by the end of class that day. You may return to class 5 minutes before closing to pick it up. If we are too busy and are not able to put work together, we will place the work in the pick-up box for you to pick up at your convenience.

Center Closures
Center closings are announced well in advance. Center closures are announced on the website calendar, on the bulletin board in the waiting room, and on an insert in your child’s Kumon box.

Both the Hudson and the Solon Center are closed the week between Christmas and New Year’s for the winter break. The Hudson Center follows the Hudson Public School holiday schedule and the Solon Center follows the Solon Public School holiday schedule to determine spring break. The Center is also closed for Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving Day. Please check the website calendar or the bulletin board in the waiting room for specific dates that we will be closed. If the Center is to be closed, students will receive two weeks of work at the last class day before the holiday. Emergency closing are announced on the website.

Achievement Test Awards
Passing an Achievement Test at the end of a level is the highest achievement a KUMON student can attain. Passing an Achievement Test indicates that a student has achieved mastery of the concepts in that level and has the skills necessary to handle the work in the next level.

Each student who passes an Achievement Test receives an Achievement Test Certificate, an Achievement Test summary, and a prize.

Please be sure to read the Achievement Test summary that will come home along with the Achievement Test certificate. This includes the student's score on the Achievement Test and a brief overview of the goals of the next level.

Student Incentives
As strict as we are about homework completion (please see section on "Incomplete Homework"), we are equally committed to rewarding students for their dedication and effort.

Since we are attempting to help students become neat and organized, students are awarded stickers at each class if all of their homework has been completed neatly, graded, and recorded. Worksheets must also be returned in the order in which they were completed. Students can earn up to five stickers each week. When the stamp card that requires 40 stickers is completed, they may select a prize. Students do not receive stickers if their work is incomplete or undone.

Through their effort and self-discipline, our students are able to earn tangible and frequent rewards for their hard work. We also give prizes for completion of the oral math and/or reading drills.

Incomplete Homework
Everyone has a crazy day from time to time where the schedule goes out the window. This happens to KUMON students, too. However, we are very strict about homework completion. We expect our students to come to class with all of their KUMON homework 100% complete, along with all mistakes corrected. The front assignment sheet must be completed and the work returned in order. Because we feel it is important for students to learn the value of organization, our motto is "Right ON: Organized and neat!" Students who come to class with work that is incomplete must complete all of it at the Center before beginning the classwork for the day, as well as make all corrections.

If there are extenuating circumstances that have prevented your child from completing their work at home, please be sure to send in a note or give a call alerting us in advance that the homework has not been done. We will reschedule their work for them.

Corrections/Homegrading
The active supervision of daily assignments at home is linked to each child's success in the KUMON program.

It is crucial that parents provide a 5-10 minute block of time per subject for the completion and correction of daily KUMON assignments.

It is the job of the parents to insure that assignments are timed, that errors are marked, and that mistakes are corrected by the student before beginning new work.

All parents are expected to homegrade their child's KUMON homework. Students whose parents homegrade make faster, smoother progress through the KUMON program because:

  • your child corrects their mistakes daily, thus learning from their mistakes and making fewer mistakes overall
  • your child repeats less
  • your child is more motivated because you are involved
  • you are more motivated because you know exactly what your child is doing

A basic tenet of the KUMON Method is that students learn from their mistakes. KUMON students are required to correct every mistake on every set they complete. Students whose parents do not homegrade spend a great deal of time in class correcting mistakes from old homework before they can begin the days' classwork. This often leads to an extended stay at the center. Students are also required to correct all mistakes on their daily classwork, as well.

We provide Answer Books and a handy Parents Guide to Homegrading to help you get started.

Missed Classes
Everyone misses a class sooner or later. We either forget, or traffic is bad, or a practice ran late.

If you know that your child will not be able to make it to class, please call us so that we can arrange for you to come in to pick up their classwork and homework. You are welcome to stop in during Center hours to pick up the work for your child. We can also leave the work in the pick-up box at the side of the building (Hudson) or in the hallway (Solon).

Completed and corrected assignments are used to develop and modify each student's individualized lesson plan. For this reason, new assignments will not be given after the 2nd subsequent unexcused absence until the previously assigned work is returned.

Please be sure to notify us at least one class session in advance of any extended vacation in order to give us ample time to plan and organize for your child's absence. Thanks!

"Taking a Break"
When a student who has taken a break returns to KUMON, they will not pick up where they left off in the curriculum. Over time, the skills that students have built through daily study have weakened. Thus, when a student returns to KUMON after an extended absence, the Instructor will determine a previous point of study for them to begin again at, usually at least a half-level before where they left off.

Termination Policy
If a student is going to drop out of a class, either temporarily or indefinitely for some reason, a written notice is required at least 15 days before the effective date.
